From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata
Updated: Nov 29, 2021
Ok so firstly, very sorry we went MIA for three weeks - biology was really not good to us :(
As usual, I have a blog post somewhere here breaking down how I rate books if you want more information on it.
Ok so, I'll start off with another book by the queen Mariana Zapata because to be honest, I need some extra cheering up.
This book is not only my top reads of the year, but its also one of my favourite books of all time. Everything about it is just perfect and I keep going back to reread it.
Firstly, the ✨setting✨. Making this about skating was an absolute genius move. MZ really transported you to the skating rink, played with your heart a little, made you fall in love with pretty much every single character, and called it a day. The amount of skating videos I've watched is unbelievable and I am now convinced I can compete in the Olympics, nail my triple Lutz, and win gold. The competitiveness, the incredible amount of hard work, and the passion in skating really shone and it made me view this sport in a completely different light.
Now, onto the ✨characters✨. If I could marry Jasmine I would. Her character development and banter is probably the best I've seen in a while. We all know that Jasmine will end up with Ivan, but MZ really makes us work for it. This book is very much a slow burn, but the banter and then many subplots just keep it moving and I never got bored.
There was no "major" plot line, so as I said before, it was mostly filled with subplots. I actually didn't mind that because it made the story more realistic and complimented the character development of the characters.
That's kinda all for the non spoiler review and Jiwoo told me to make more spoilery reviews so here we are. Every thing beyond this is going to be spoilers :)
Ok so, Ivan. I have compiled a list of why he is my favourite book boyfriend:
He rescues animals and has a pig and bunny
"To Meatball, From your best friend Ivan"
When he took care of Jasmine when she messed up her leg and again when she got sick
The way he know Jasmine was so close to killing Paul when he ambushed her when she was getting ready for her skate
The dinners with Jasmine's family
When he babysat Jasmine's nephews
The way he doesn't treat Jasmine like an ornament and the banter doesn't stop after they get together
Literally everything about him
But am I upset that he got married to Jasmine and is no loner available? No I'm not... maybe a little bit
This may be problematic but I think I liked this book more than Winnipeg. I know, I know, Winnipeg is also perfection but I loved the skating a lot more than the football mostly because I know more about skating.
Ok thats all from me folks. It's lunch time and I really want to eat :)
