The Kingdom of the Cursed by Kerri Maniscalco (Part 1)
Ok so remember when I wrote the review for the first book and I said that I would read the second book in October when it came out? lol that was a lie. I picked it up last week and have been slowly trying to get through it, not because it's bad, but because I want to prolong it until the next one comes out so I dont have to wait. Will I have enough self restraint to wait until then? probably not but a girl can hope.
Before we get into it, I would like to congratulate Jiwoo for writing her first review on the Martian (not sure if its out already tho). Her review seems more professional than mine and will probably give you more analysis about the book so I recommend reading it :)
Anyways, lets get into it. I want to try a new way of reviewing and try to do it in stages as I read. I'm not sure how many parts I'll write or if I'll do this again but we shall see how it goes.
So far I have read 124 pages out of 433 so I am about 30% through the book.
- I have no idea why I waited so long to read this cuz its so much better than the first one
- her writing style has drastically improved and its so much more descriptive and rich and philosophical (in some instances)
- I use dark blue tabs for beautiful writing and this book is filled with them so far
- I love how we are kept in the dark about pretty much everything cuz it just makes me want to read more
- the banter between Emilia and Wrath is basically the only thing that is keeping me sane right now. I love it so much and I feel like other than giving us super cute and sarcastic moments between them, it really deepens the characters and enriches their development.
- I especially love Emilias development. At the beginning (first book), she seemed unsure of herself but now she's becoming the queen I hoped she would and taking us along for the journey.
- the way Maniscalco describes the dresses and clothes in general is phenomenal. I usually have a hard time picturing clothes in my mind so I go rouge and make my own costumes but in this book it was so easy to picture them in my head.
- One thing I'm a little confused about is the whole devil business. Sometimes the devil is referred to as Pride but then sometimes they are different people so I am a little confused on how the hierarchy in hell works.
- This book is also spicier than the first one
Spoiler reviews for this section
- I accidentally saw that her sister is still alive and OMG what a good plot twist. I'm mad that I saw it but am so excited to see how that works and how and why
- a talking skull keeps appearing and I am very confused about that but its kinda giving me Mort vibes. (hes the magic skull in throne of glass that guards the tomb) and also the talking skulls in hotel Transylvania
- I hope we get to see more of Anir because I love how sarcastic he is and I feel like there is more to him than meets the eye.
- Definitely know that Wrath isn't telling Emilia everything and I am so curious to see what he is hiding.
ok that's all for now. I hope y'all like this new way of review and as I said before I don't know if I'll continue it. I just did this because I don't think I'll be reading too much but I still want to write reviews. Don't forget to drink some water.
this is Alexia testing the comment button cuz I don't actually know how it works lol
